Manufacturer examples include a 5W OASE filter, an 8W OASE light and a 50W heater paired with the filter. These are equipment inputs, not a national average running cost.
Manufacturer specifications checked 10 September 2026. Heater runtime and household electricity tariff remain user inputs.

Inventory the exact equipment
Record model, watts and schedule for every device. Do not substitute a similarly named model: Fluval Aquasky 3.0 lights alone span multiple wattages.
Sources: Fluval Aquatics UKConvert watts and hours to electricity
For each device: watts ÷ 1,000 × hours used = kWh. Multiply by your own tariff. An 8W light used eight hours is 0.064kWh that day before applying the tariff.
Sources: OASEDo not assume the heater runs continuously
Rated watts show draw while active, not daily runtime. OASE separates a 5W filter from a 50W heater; measure or scenario-test heater-on hours rather than billing 55W continuously.
Sources: OASEKeep scenarios transparent
Show low and high runtime assumptions separately and rerun them with the tariff on your bill. Replacement media, water treatments, livestock and maintenance are separate budget lines.
Calculate your aquarium electricity cost
Use your exact equipment ratings and your electricity bill. For the heater, enter hours actively heating, not hours plugged in. Zero is valid for equipment you do not use.
Enter all inputs to calculate; no household tariff or heater runtime is assumed.
This is a constant-input scenario, not measured consumption. Repeat with different heater runtimes or use a suitable energy meter. It excludes standing charges, equipment, water and consumables. Do not alter necessary animal-care conditions to match a budget.
