Keep deposits, supplements and cancellation separate
For each actual quote, write down the arrival time, collection time, charged units, holiday supplement dates, food and medication-service additions, and household-sharing total. A deposit applied to the balance is part of the price; a non-creditable booking fee is additional.
Compare kennel and home boarding on the same itinerary. Ask about overnight supervision, who can accept delayed collection and the cancellation amount due at each notice period. Where collection rules are unknown, the advertised daily rate is not enough to calculate a confirmed booking total.
Count the chargeable days first
Give the provider exact drop-off and collection times. Ask for the total booking price rather than multiplying the headline rate yourself. Doghouse uses collection cut-offs; Country House says its daily billing includes arrival day. A late flight can therefore change the boarding bill even if it adds no extra overnight stay.

Illustrative calculation using Country House's published tariff: eight chargeable days for one dog cost £280 before its separately listed weekly charge and any holiday surcharge. Eight days for two sharing cost £416 before extras. Confirm how its weekly charge applies to a stay longer than seven days rather than assuming it is charged only once.
Home boarding and kennels should be compared as different settings. Ask for the same dates and care requirements from each; do not infer that a home setting or a higher bill guarantees a better match.

Doghouse lists food and three walks a day within its rate. Elsewhere, a premium walk, special food, administration of medication or transport may be separate. Provide the care routine before requesting a quote so an inexpensive base price does not conceal an unsuitable service.

Ask to see the accommodation and the provider's applicable licence details, confirm who is present overnight, and agree emergency contact and veterinary arrangements. Ask about vaccination requirements far enough ahead to consult your vet.
Keep a written booking total, deposit terms, cancellation rules and the agreed collection window. If more than one dog is sharing, check that the shared rate applies to your household and that separate accommodation is available if needed.
Calculate the quoted stay cost
Ask the provider how many days or nights are chargeable. Enter that number, not automatically the number of nights away.
Enter your own quotes, including VAT where payable. Prices are deliberately blank. Enter zero for a charge that does not apply. Calculations stay in your browser; quoted amounts are not sent to us.
Confirm collection cutoffs, minimum stays, food and sharing. Enter a whole-booking extra once. Refundable deposits and deposits credited to the bill are not additional costs.
Worked arithmetic example
Illustration only: 7 charged days at £30 plus 2 holiday supplements at £5 total £220. A 6-night trip can have a different charged-day count.
Method: multiply each price by its quantity, round each line to the nearest penny, then add. No inflation or unentered charges are assumed.
