Positive, negative and exact break-even examples
For an assumed £20/month plan plus £10 joining fee, annual payments are £250. A usable standalone basket of £270 gives £20 saving; £250 breaks even; £210 makes the plan £40 more expensive. These are constructed scenarios using the same plan cost, not savings claimed for Medivet.
Keep clinical need outside the arithmetic: the vet-agreed basket determines what to price. If a benefit requires extra paid visits or a purchase you would not otherwise make, include that extra spending before calling the discount a saving.
Build the basket you will actually use
Ask your practice for the standalone prices of relevant vaccinations, parasite products, checks and any other included services. Count only the frequency agreed for your pet. An included service you would not otherwise buy should not automatically count as a cash saving.
Do not add both a vaccination appointment's included examination and a separate consultation unless both would actually have been charged. Avoid double-counting the same visit.
A transparent break-even example
Constructed example: a £20/month plan costs £240 a year. If relevant standalone items total £270, the initial difference is £30. A £10 joining fee reduces that to £20. If £60 of the basket is for items you would not otherwise use, the same plan is £40 more expensive after the joining fee.
This example is not a measured saving at any practice. Put your own written quote into the care-plan checker and retain the underlying item prices.
A health check may not cover a sick-pet consultation
Medivet distinguishes its routine healthy-pet checks from chargeable consultations for health problems. Its cat page also offers a separate consultation addition. Ask what the exact plan covers before treating all future visits as included.

Ask for the contract term and what you owe if you move, cancel or your pet dies. Monthly instalments do not necessarily mean each month can be purchased independently. Check whether treatment already received can be charged back on cancellation.
Value a percentage discount only against likely eligible spending. A 10% discount on a service you do not expect to use has no assured cash value, and a discounted practice price can still differ from another provider's ordinary price.
Compare the first year and renewal year separately
The standard Complete Care terms specify a 12-month minimum; the separate Junior plan has a 14-month term. Direct Debit continues until cancelled, and prices can change with notice. The terms list a £60 early cancellation charge, with exceptions; a transfer to another practice is not automatic. Check the agreement you are actually offered.
Price first-year services separately from repeat-year benefits. Microchipping is not a recurring annual saving once completed. An initial vaccination or restart may have extra charges: ask for your written plan scope rather than assuming the monthly amount covers every appointment. A plan is not insurance, and this comparison does not recommend treatments.

- Do not cancel the Direct Debit as the way to give notice; the terms say this may be treated as ending the membership under clause 6.3.
- Clause 6.3 says a £60 cancellation fee applies when a member ends during a contract year because they no longer wish to maintain the subscription, alongside subscription fees due up to cancellation. It is not stated as a fee for every cancellation route.
- For online or telephone sign-ups, the terms separately describe a 14-day cooling-off route. If benefits were used, their value is reconciled against fees paid and an excess of up to £60 may be charged; this is separate from the clause 6.3 fee.
- Other routes include inability to register at a reasonably located participating practice, specified events such as a pet's death or practice closure, and material failure not remedied after written notice. The payment outcome differs by route.
- A Direct Debit already close to its due date may still be collected; the terms describe refunding an amount that was not due, less any amount owed.
