Match solo, group and shorter visits independently
Request separate quotes for a 30-minute solo walk, 60-minute solo walk and 60-minute group walk where offered. For each, record actual walking time, collection radius, maximum group size, regular-booking commitment and ad hoc rate. Do not derive a half-hour fee by halving an hourly tariff: minimum booking and transport costs may apply.
For two dogs, get a household total for walking together and a second total if separate walks are required. Subtract only bookings that the contract allows you to cancel without charge.
A repeat booking makes small price gaps matter
Constructed budget: three walks a week for 48 weeks is 144 bookings. At £18 each that is £2,592; at £25 it is £3,600. The £1,008 difference is a planning comparison, not evidence that the two services are interchangeable.
Use the weeks you actually need, then include cancellation charges during holidays or illness. A five-day commitment can also have different terms from occasional bookings.
Ask where the hour starts
Confirm whether collection, driving, drying and returning your dog fall inside the advertised hour. Ask about the maximum group size and the suitability assessment for joining other dogs. A solo walk can reasonably have a different price because the walker cannot share that hour between customers.
Two dogs need a household total
The Waggy Wagtails example charges £25 for two same-family dogs for an hour, rather than twice its £17 solo price. Do not assume the same discount applies to unrelated dogs, dogs that need separate walks or all providers.
Ask whether the second-dog fee changes if one dog stays home. Check the quoted total before comparing with daycare, which buys a longer period of care.

Doggy Social Club lists £30 for a one-dog hour on weekends and bank holidays, compared with £18 on weekdays. Match the actual days you need. Ask about weather cancellations, missed access, emergency veterinary arrangements and who covers the booking if your usual walker is unavailable.

Do not assume four weeks equals a month. Exclude holidays when no walks are booked, and check cancellation charges.
Worked arithmetic example
Illustration only: 3 walks a week for 46 weeks is 138 walks. At an assumed £15 each, the walk subtotal is £2,070.
Method: multiply each price by its quantity, round each line to the nearest penny, then add. No inflation or unentered charges are assumed.
