Veterinary allergy testing costs: compare referral packages and lab components

A laboratory panel, an intradermal test and a specialist package containing consultation, sedation and hospitalisation are different purchases. Start with the exact service proposed by the responsible vet.

At a glance

Davies publishes a £1,500 package including consultation, sedation, intradermal testing and serology. London Vet Specialists lists intradermal testing at £1,000 or £1,400 with serology, with its £480 initial routine consultation shown separately. A laboratory list shows a £224.17 canine testing component before VAT, which is not a complete client bill.

Two complete referral-provider packages and one laboratory component tariff checked 10 September 2026. This limited evidence cannot support a UK average, a diagnosis or a recommendation to test.

The laboratory row is contextual evidence for one component, not a third comparable package.

Ask what exact question and service the quote covers

Ask the responsible vet to name the proposed test or referral service and explain the quote’s components. This guide does not determine whether testing is useful for an individual pet and does not interpret results.

Separate consultation, procedure and external laboratory fees

London Vet Specialists lists its initial consultation separately from intradermal testing. Davies lists consultation within its £1,500 package. Comparing only the testing line would therefore misstate the total difference.

Worked comparison: include a separately listed initial consultation

London Vet Specialists lists £480 for an initial routine consultation and £1,000 for intradermal testing. If both lines apply, the arithmetic total is £1,480; its £1,400 intradermal-plus-serology line would total £1,880 with that consultation. Confirm whether the consultation is charged in addition for the actual referral. Davies’ £1,500 package expressly includes consultation, so it would be false to describe London’s £1,000 procedure line as the cheaper complete visit without resolving that boundary.

Why there is no national benchmark here

Only two current, sufficiently detailed specialist consumer packages were found. The laboratory tariff is a component cost. More independently published, like-for-like provider prices are needed before calculating any market statistic.

Add up your itemised veterinary estimate

Copy the charges from the written estimate for the service your vet has proposed. If a package includes an item, do not add that item a second time.

Enter your own quotes, including VAT where payable. Prices are deliberately blank. Enter zero for a charge that does not apply. Calculations stay in your browser; quoted amounts are not sent to us.

This only adds your entered charges. It does not select tests, surgery or treatment, predict complications, or replace a written veterinary estimate. Confirm VAT and the estimate limits with the provider.

Worked arithmetic example

Arithmetic illustration only: a £1,000 package plus a separately charged £150 consultation totals £1,150. These are not observed prices or recommended services.

Method: multiply each price by its quantity, round each line to the nearest penny, then add. No inflation or unentered charges are assumed.
