Stainless steel may describe only the drinking surface

Catit’s PIXI stainless-steel fountain has a steel top, not an entirely steel reservoir. That distinction matters when comparing materials or dishwasher cleaning. Check exactly which parts the manual allows in the dishwasher and keep the electrical parts out.

Drinkwell 360 is a different circular arrangement with access around the bowl. Capacity is not the same as a safe unattended interval: water still needs checking, changing and cleaning, regardless of tank size.

Price filters before buying the fountain

Price the exact compatible filter pack and replacement pump, not a generic filter with a similar shape. The separate table lists eight selected pack/item options; a twelve-filter pack is not automatically a year’s supply.

The part prices do not establish replacement frequency or pump lifetime. Use the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact model, and do not add items already included in a new fountain package twice.

Calculate electricity from the actual wattage

Annual electricity in kWh is watts × 24 × 365 ÷ 1,000 for continuous use. Multiply by your own electricity unit rate. Do not use a power adaptor’s maximum output as though it were the appliance’s measured consumption.

The UK PIXI listing states power use below 1 W. At an illustrative 25p/kWh, continuous 1 W operation would cost £2.19 a year. This is an upper-bound calculation from that specification at an example tariff, not a measured bill or a current national tariff.

Our shortlist and what remains untested

The three options have identifiable UK versions and documented capacities. We favour accessible reservoirs, replaceable consumables and a clear cleaning routine over claims that a fountain prevents disease. We have not tested noise, pump life, water quality or cat preference.

A normal clean bowl remains an alternative if your cat prefers it or the pump stops. A drinking change that concerns you should be discussed with your vet; a product comparison cannot explain its cause. We exclude a clinical best-for-kidney-disease recommendation without an individual veterinary assessment.

Capacity only helps if the fountain is practical to clean

The stainless-top PIXI is product 43720: 2 L, 20 x 20 x 17 cm and rated below 1 W, with the removable steel top described as dishwasher safe. The Flower Fountain is product 43742: 3 L and 21 x 21 x 20 cm. They do not share the same capacity or replacement-filter assumption.

PetSafe D360SS-UK-17 holds 3.8 L and uses both carbon and foam filters. Its dishwasher guidance applies to specified fountain parts, not the pump. Budget for the exact filters and eventual pump parts, and choose by how easily the bowl, channels and pump can be cleaned in your sink.

Delivery and unresolved filter-pack details

Catit calculates shipping at checkout and advertises free UK shipping from £40; a numerical standard charge was not established, so a spare below that threshold is not assumed to ship free. Its delivery page excludes the Channel Islands.

PetSafe’s standard £7.99 delivery would take a standalone £12.99 UK pump to £20.98 before any address-specific checkout difference. The policy says free delivery over £90 while its banner says £90 or more; confirm an order exactly at that boundary.

The Drinkwell PAC19-14356 filter page describes both three filters and a twelve-pack. We have not assigned it a pack price per filter until that contradiction is resolved.
