Check room to move and room to open the door
Blue Cross advises enough length to turn and stretch, and enough height to sit without touching the roof. Allow for the bedding inside. Measure the assembled internal space rather than assuming a label such as medium is standard between manufacturers.
Tape the footprint onto the floor and mark the door swing. A crate that fits between cupboards may still be unusable if the useful door opens against a wall. Savic’s listed 50 cm Dog Residence has front and top access; do not assume larger models share that arrangement.

A folding model is easier to put away, but you still need storage space for its tray and bedding. Removable trays and a low entrance are practical details worth checking in the exact variant. A top opening may help access; it is not a substitute for a comfortable front entrance.

A crate should be introduced gradually as a resting place. Blue Cross advises against punishment or prolonged confinement. If your dog is distressed, a stronger latch does not solve the underlying problem; seek suitable behaviour support.
We exclude fabric crates as a first recommendation for dogs that chew or scratch at an enclosure. We also do not treat a household wire crate as a crash-tested vehicle restraint. If car travel is the main purpose, buy against a separate vehicle-safety specification.

Include a correctly sized washable bed, water provision and any divider you require. Compare the supplied items: a crate with a divider is a different purchase from a visually similar crate without one. Check replacement tray availability before choosing a less familiar brand.
Second-hand wire crates can be worth inspecting in person. Check for damaged welds, bent doors, sharp edges, missing clips and a cracked tray. Our shortlist prioritises identifiable models and manuals; it does not establish comparative resistance to escape or chewing.
Published external dimensions do not prove internal fit
P72526 is one range with different external dimensions: extra small is about 49.5 x 45.5 x 62.9 cm, small 54.5 x 49.4 x 78 cm and medium 62.4 x 59.5 x 93.3 cm, listed as height x width x depth. The supplier does not provide a complete internal-clearance or door-opening table, so those values remain buying checks rather than inferred measurements.
Savic Dog Residence 50 is A3290-0093, 53 x 31 x 37 cm, with front and top doors and a fold-flat frame. Those features do not make it a crash-tested vehicle restraint. Allow room for bedding and water without reducing the dog's ability to stand, turn and lie comfortably, and follow gradual crate-training guidance.
