Options to compare
These are research-based comparisons, not hands-on tests or clinical endorsements. The best choice depends on your pet and home. Retailer links on this page are not affiliate links; availability and prices can change.
Dogs that use a surround as a headrest
Omlet Bolster Bed
A useful shortlist for owners who want published internal dimensions and washable covers.
- Bolsters reduce usable room.
- Confirm the chosen size and replacement-cover stock.
Dogs that prefer an open surface
Scruffs Harvard Memory Foam Mattress
The flat format avoids a wraparound surround; compare its stated size with your dog at rest.
- Foam fill is not the same specification as a single solid foam slab.
- Check current size availability with the seller.
Buyers wanting the foam layers specified
Rectangular Memory Foam Dog Bed – Grey
The published base and memory-foam layer make the construction easier to assess.
- The cover is washable at 30°C; that does not make the foam machine washable.
- Allow room for the largest chosen size.
Measure the sleeping area, not the product photograph
Measure the space your dog actually occupies while resting in their usual stretched-out position. Compare that with the inner sleeping dimensions, then check that the whole bed fits your room. A curled-up photograph is not a useful size guide for a dog that sleeps on its side.
Omlet gives separate inner and outer dimensions: its large Bolster has an 82 × 50 cm internal area despite a 105.5 × 71.5 cm footprint. That difference is why we do not recommend a size solely from a breed name.
Sources: OmletWhat an orthopaedic label does and does not establish
A foam bed may offer a more continuous surface than loose filling, but the word orthopaedic is not proof that a particular bed treats pain. We compare the published construction and accessibility instead of reproducing medical marketing claims.
The zooplus mattress specifies a polyurethane base and a separate memory-foam layer. Scruffs describes repurposed memory-foam fill. Those are different constructions; neither description by itself establishes how the bed feels under your particular dog. If mobility or discomfort is the reason for changing the bed, ask your vet what access and support requirements matter.

Write down the delivered bed price, an optional spare cover and any liner before buying. Check whether the care label applies to the cover or the entire bed, whether it fits your washing machine and how you will dry it. A bed that stays wet after every wash creates a practical need for a second bed.
For a simple planning comparison, divide purchase plus replacement-cover spending by the number of years you expect to use it. That is a scenario, not a durability prediction: a £90 bed used for three years costs £30 a year before washing, while a £35 bed replaced annually costs £35 a year. The cheaper annual result depends on the life you actually obtain.
Why these three made the shortlist
We selected one bolster and two open mattresses with identifiable suppliers and usable construction details. Our first checks are sleeping dimensions, removable cover, access height and replacement options. We do not give points for decorative names, claimed calming effects or a large customer-star total.
The Independent has separately tested dog beds at home, including other Scruffs models; its report reinforces the importance of checking sizing. We do not transfer its testing verdict to the Harvard mattress or claim these three have won a comparative trial. Beds without usable dimensions, and medical benefit claims without supporting evidence, did not qualify as stronger recommendations.
Sources: The IndependentCompare usable sleeping area, not the largest outer dimension
Omlet publishes both external and internal dimensions for its bolster bed. Small is 60 x 48 x 17 cm outside but 45 x 30 cm inside; medium is 87.5 x 55.5 x 21 cm outside and 70 x 43 cm inside; large is 105.5 x 71.5 x 26.5 cm outside and 82 x 50 cm inside. Bolsters use some of the footprint.
The removable cover and bolster can be machine washed and replacement covers are sold, so a realistic ownership comparison includes a spare cover only if your drying routine requires one. Measure the dog asleep in its normal posture and check the selected variant, doorway clearance and washing-machine capacity before ordering.
- Excluded: No orthopaedic-treatment or pain-relief claim from the use of memory foam.
- Excluded: No size recommendation from breed label alone; internal usable area is the relevant check.
- Excluded: No durability winner because CVP has not wash-cycled or compression-tested these beds.
Read trial, return and warranty wording as separate promises
Omlet’s Topology support page states a 180-day return for a full refund if the bed remains in perfect condition, plus a two-year warranty. It also says the bed is not chew- or claw-proof and excludes damage from normal pet use. Those conditions are materially different from an unconditional sleep trial, and they apply to Topology rather than proving the policy for every shortlisted bed.
Baker & Bray gives its Eco Friendly Luxury Dog Beds a 30-night trial after at least 14 days of genuine use; chewed or damaged beds may lose a full refund, and return carriage is normally paid by the customer. Berkeley instead gives 14 working days after receipt, requires an as-new resaleable return, excludes sale and bespoke products, and makes the customer pay return delivery unless the item is faulty. Its five-year guarantee covers material or workmanship defects but excludes covers, wear, chewing, ripping, abrasion and moisture-related damage. These named terms are comparison context, not added recommendations.

Use the exact model and size you intend to buy. Add essential accessories and consumables for a clearly chosen period; do not count included parts twice.
Enter your own quotes, including VAT where payable. Prices are deliberately blank. Enter zero for a charge that does not apply. Calculations stay in your browser; quoted amounts are not sent to us.
Replacement frequency is your assumption unless independently measured. Keep kilograms and litres distinct. This total excludes subscriptions and electricity unless you include them in additional charges.
Worked arithmetic example
Illustration only: a £100 delivered product plus 6 replacement packs at £5 totals £130. This is not a product offer or lifespan estimate.
Method: multiply each price by its quantity, round each line to the nearest penny, then add. No inflation or unentered charges are assumed.
