GPS map or handheld homing?

GPS trackers send a location through a mobile network. A radio homing device guides you from a handset while you search within its working range; it does not provide the same remote map view. Decide whether you need to see where a roaming cat went or locate a hiding cat nearby.

Tabcat V2 uses a handset and lightweight tags. Treat it as the radio alternative, not as cheaper unlimited-range GPS. A microchip is identification when scanned, not a live locating device.

Collar safety can override a feature advantage

Cats Protection recommends a quick-release collar and advises against elasticated designs. Weenect describes its supplied collar as anti-strangulation and elasticated, but the checked primary listing did not verify a complete compatible quick-release setup. It is therefore excluded from this page's recommendations rather than presented as a conditional shortlist choice.

The Tractive CAT 6 Mini integrates the tracker into its release collar and is listed for cats weighing 3–8 kg. Check the current adjustment instructions against your own cat. Never disable a release mechanism to protect the cost of the tracker.

Do not merge CAT Mini and CAT 6 Mini specifications

Tractive currently lists both models. CAT 6 Mini is the collar-integrated design; the older CAT Mini is a separately mounted device. Their weights and advertised battery figures differ. Check the full model name on a marketplace listing before comparing it with this page.

Manufacturer maximum battery figures depend on power-saving conditions. Build a charging routine from what you observe, and remember that a tracker charging at home cannot locate the cat wearing its spare collar.

Budget for each cat separately

A paid GPS service normally needs a subscription for each tracker. Compare the upfront term payment and renewal as well as the device. For a multi-cat home, add all devices and plans before judging an advertised monthly price.

For radio devices, check how many tags the pack contains and how many the handset supports. Include replacement batteries, cases and collars. Our selection compares design and operating cost; no independent head-to-head test establishes the best reception in your home.

Pass the collar-safety gate before comparing tracking features

Cats Protection recommends a quick-release collar. Tractive CAT 6 Mini combines a 32 g tracker-and-collar assembly for cats from 3 to 8 kg; the separate CAT Mini assembly is 42 g and intended for cats above 3 kg. Those variants have different size, attachment and battery claims and must not be merged.

Weenect XS is excluded from the recommendations on this page. Its primary page describes the supplied cat collar as anti-strangulation and elasticated and offers a silicone attachment for another collar, but the page checked did not verify a complete compatible quick-release setup. Tabcat remains a different, nearby radio-homing option rather than a remote GPS map substitute.

Verify cat history, territory and returns during the allowed window

Tractive documents 24 hours of Location History on Basic and up to 365 days plus export on Premium. Its cat-only Territory view summarises roaming over the past week, while Virtual Fences can notify on entry or exit. These records depend on captured updates and on both GPS and cellular connectivity; they are not a continuous independently verified route.

The current UK CAT 6 Mini page gives a 30-day tracker return window. Test the safety-collar fit, first fix, live updates, boundary alerts, history and Territory view where the cat normally roams before that deadline. Tabcat is radio homing rather than map-history GPS, so the Tractive history and geofence fields do not apply to it. No PitPat or DOG 6 return term is used for this cat comparison.
