Sources checked 10 September 2026. Individual source dates appear below; an editorial review does not refresh a price or establish clinical approval.
Some source checks are outside our review interval. Treat the quoted prices and terms as dated references, not current offers. Verify them with the linked sources before choosing; travel requirements also need a fresh official check.

Shortlist PitPat GPS for included connectivity, Tractive DOG 6 for its subscription-based feature set and Weenect XS for a smaller device. Test coverage during the return period; none can guarantee a live position everywhere.
Research-based comparison of published specifications, manuals and UK buying conditions, checked on 10 September 2026. We have not physically tested these products. Recommendations describe the use case each design suits; they are not clinical assessments or a claim to have tested every product. Amazon search links are not verified offers or stock checks. These are research-based comparisons, not hands-on tests or clinical endorsements. The best choice depends on your pet and home. Retailer links on this page are not affiliate links; availability and prices can change.
Owners prioritising no recurring connectivity bill
PitPat Dog GPS Tracker
Included connectivity makes the long-term bill simpler.
- A fresh tracking session can take time to connect.
- Mobile coverage still matters.
Owners comfortable paying for a feature-rich tracker plan
Tractive DOG 6
Compare the chosen subscription as carefully as the device.
- Subscription required.
- Maximum battery claims depend on use.
Owners comparing smaller GPS devices
Weenect XS dog tracker
Its published 27 g weight makes it a useful size alternative.
- Subscription required.
- Verify cash billing total: displayed monthly equivalents can obscure commitment.
GPS reception and phone-network coverage are different
Satellite signals help establish a location; the tracker must then transmit it to your phone. Woodland, buildings and mobile reception can affect the result. An unlimited-range claim does not mean uninterrupted coverage.
During the return period, test your ordinary routes and places your dog might reach. Check how long a fresh location takes, whether the displayed point is current and whether notifications arrive while the phone is locked. Testing only in your garden is a weak basis for a rural walking purchase.
Sources: Tractive · PitPat · WeenectCompare the same period and upfront payment
Record hardware, required subscription, renewal price and any loss-cover option separately. A plan advertised as a few pounds a month may require several years paid at once. Compare both the cash required today and the cost over your intended ownership period.
PitPat states that GPS connectivity is included without an ongoing subscription. That should not be confused with its separate activity-only device. For paid plans, check whether travel, shared access and history features need a different tier.
Sources: PitPat · TractiveBattery claims need a usage assumption
Manufacturer maximum battery life is not a result from a shared test. Power-saving zones, live tracking and signal conditions can change the charging interval. A longer maximum is useful only if the device fits comfortably and you can maintain the routine.
Weenect lists XS at 27 g; Tractive publishes separate dog sizes. Check collar attachment and the exact model’s recommended pet size before purchase. Do not substitute a larger model solely because it offers a larger battery.
Sources: Weenect · TractiveShortlist boundaries and independent evidence
We selected three identifiable GPS products with UK buying information and different connectivity costs. Bluetooth item tags and activity monitors do not enter this GPS comparison. Their lower purchase price buys a different function.
Expert Reviews’ archived tracker comparison concerns older products, including Tractive DOG 4. It is useful background but cannot prove DOG 6 performance. Our recommendations are specification-based; comparative acquisition-time, tracking-error and battery trials remain unperformed by CVP.
Sources: Expert ReviewsMatch device size, network dependency and billing cadence
Tractive DOG 6 is 39 g and 71 x 29 x 17 mm, specified for dogs above 4 kg and collars up to 2.8 cm wide. Larger DOG 6 XL and Adventure devices are different variants. Each Tractive device needs its own plan, and cancelling renewal leaves an already paid plan active to the end of its billing period.
PitPat Dog GPS is 30 g and under 60 mm, with mobile connectivity included. The sealed battery is not user- or manufacturer-replaceable, a full charge can take up to five hours, and a live session can take up to 90 seconds to wake and connect. The manufacturer says mobile coverage is required and indoor or underground tracking can be unreliable.
- Excluded: No guarantee of indoor, underground or no-signal locating from a mobile-network GPS tracker.
- Excluded: No monthly-price comparison that hides an annual or multi-year upfront commitment.
- Excluded: No equivalence between the PitPat Activity Monitor and the distinct PitPat GPS product.
Verify history, geofences and returns during the allowed window
Tractive documents 24 hours of Location History on Basic and up to 365 days plus export on Premium. Virtual Fences can notify on entry or exit, but the tracker needs both satellite positioning and cellular coverage to send locations. History is built from recorded updates, and shared family members can see the same timeline; it is not a continuous, independently verified route record.
The UK DOG 6 page states a 30-day money-back guarantee. PitPat’s current standard Dog GPS page states a one-year warranty and free six-week returns, including used, scratched or damaged trackers and shipping, but does not provide a comparable primary-source promise for route-history retention or user-defined geofence alerts. During the applicable window, test initial fix, live updates, a real boundary crossing, notification delivery, history visibility and the return procedure in the places that matter.

Compare the equipment cost and the actual subscription payments for two options. A monthly equivalent may require paying a year or more upfront.
Use your actual quotes and billing intervals. Amounts stay in your browser. The horizon starts with a payment on your chosen date and excludes a renewal exactly at its end. Include other consumables separately; do not treat these totals as every possible ownership expense.
UK Tractive hardware and subscription prices
Compare the advertised base plan with the optional Tractive Care add-on, not just the monthly equivalent. The public UK menu also displayed the Care-inclusive totals below. Care is not assumed or selected for you. Prices and eligibility must be confirmed at checkout; these are dated starting-price examples, not a guaranteed quote.

Hardware is separate. The manufacturer advertises free tracker shipping; confirm the full payable amount, tax treatment and delivery conditions for your address. An annual, two-year or five-year plan is paid in full at the start, not as monthly instalments. No monthly dog plan was shown on the checked UK menu; the cat menu’s monthly option is not a dog offer.
Basic covers one selected country; Premium adds supported international use, sharing and longer location history. Both need satellite reception and a supported mobile connection: a country listing does not guarantee reception on every route. Each tracker needs its own plan. Optional Care addresses loss, theft or damage under the provider’s terms; check eligibility and exclusions rather than treating it as compulsory or unlimited replacement.

Use a selected price example in the calculator
Choose all three fields explicitly. This replaces the chosen option with an editable planning example; confirm your own quote, additional charges and billing terms before relying on the total. The other option stays unchanged.
Worked example and limitations
Illustration only: starting 1 January 2027, a £28 payment every 28 days produces 14 payments (£392) before 1 January 2028. A £28 calendar-month payment produces 12 payments (£336). The first option also supplies periods extending beyond the horizon: cash paid is not the same as food consumed or like-for-like value.
The same price is assumed at each renewal unless you enter a different first payment. No later price changes, cancellation refunds, partial-period refunds, interest or inflation are predicted. Calendar-month dates keep the original day where possible and use the month’s last day otherwise. Confirm the provider’s actual billing rules.
