Everyday walking with two lead-attachment options
Ruffwear Front Range
A well-documented option to try when the published girth range fits.
- Hand-wash care.
- Not a universal fit or a guarantee against pulling.
Dogs needing different front and girth sizes
PerfectFit three-piece harness
Modularity provides a useful alternative when a standard size is wrong in one area.
- Buy all required pieces.
- Fit support may be more useful than ordering by guesswork.
Owners specifically wanting a saddle-style harness
Julius-K9 IDC Powerharness
A broad published size range and UK supplier make the exact fit check possible.
- Not the same shape as the other two.
- Confirm current ring material and accessories.
Measure before ordering and test the fit indoors
Take the measurements required by the actual manufacturer. Ruffwear sizes Front Range around the widest rib-cage circumference. PerfectFit combines separate top, front and girth sections, allowing different component sizes.
Check clearance behind the front legs, whether the body panel twists and whether the dog can move normally. Keep the tags until you have assessed the fit under the seller’s return conditions. A breed-to-size chart is only a starting estimate.

Front Range provides chest and back lead attachments. A chest connection provides another handling option; it does not establish that a dog will stop pulling. Buy training support separately if that is the problem you need to solve.
Julius-K9’s UK page warns that some metal components are being replaced by plastic and that torch holders are being phased out. Ask the seller which version you will receive if either feature affects your choice. Do not rely on an older review photograph.
Sources: Ruffwear · Julius-K9When modular construction may save money
A complete modular harness may cost more initially than a single-piece design. Its economic advantage depends on whether you can replace only the part that is worn or outgrown. Ask for the price of the full fitted set and of likely replacement pieces.
Include the lead you intend to use. A two-ended lead is a separate purchase, and a product name containing no-pull does not tell you which connection hardware comes in the box. For a puppy, allow for resizing rather than assuming one purchase will last into adulthood.
Sources: PerfectFitHow we selected these options
The shortlist covers three construction approaches from identifiable suppliers with fit information. We prioritise the ability to establish fit, component details and care requirements. We have not tested pressure distribution, break strength or long-term comfort.
We exclude claims that a general walking harness is escape-proof or suitable as a crash restraint without separate supporting evidence. Specialist lifting, working-dog and vehicle harnesses need their own assessment. A prominent handle alone is not enough to establish safe lifting support.
Record the measurement system and replaceable parts
Front Range is selected by the widest rib-cage measurement: XXS 33-43 cm, XS 43-56, S 56-69, M 69-81 and L/XL 81-107 cm. It has four adjustment points plus rear and front lead attachment points. Hand washing and air drying are part of the manufacturer care instructions.
PerfectFit is a modular top, front and girth system in 15, 20 and 40 mm strap-width ranges; individual pieces can be replaced, so it should not be compared as one fixed-size SKU. IDC Powerharness has its own girth chart from Baby 1 through size 4, and Julius-K9 warns that phased component changes mean delivered plastic or metal details can differ from older images.
- Excluded: No promise that a front attachment stops pulling or treats a behaviour problem.
- Excluded: No escape-proof claim without testing fit on the individual dog.
- Excluded: No assumption that old metal components or phased-out torch holders remain in the delivered IDC variant.
Compare the complete equipment basket
Use the exact model and size you intend to buy. Add essential accessories and consumables for a clearly chosen period; do not count included parts twice.
Enter your own quotes, including VAT where payable. Prices are deliberately blank. Enter zero for a charge that does not apply. Calculations stay in your browser; quoted amounts are not sent to us.
Replacement frequency is your assumption unless independently measured. Keep kilograms and litres distinct. This total excludes subscriptions and electricity unless you include them in additional charges.
Worked arithmetic example
Illustration only: a £100 delivered product plus 6 replacement packs at £5 totals £130. This is not a product offer or lifespan estimate.
Method: multiply each price by its quantity, round each line to the nearest penny, then add. No inflation or unentered charges are assumed.
