Best vacuum cleaners for pet hair UK: pickup and ownership cost

Pet hair creates several cleaning jobs: embedded hair in carpet, loose fur on hard floors and hair on upholstery. The best purchase depends on those surfaces, your storage and whether a battery or cable suits the whole home.

At a glance

Dyson V15 Detect has independent pet-hair pickup evidence and cordless convenience. Miele Guard L1 Cat & Dog Flex offers a bagged cylinder with a turbobrush. Henry Pet is the lower-priced corded shortlist in the manufacturer snapshots below. Compare the supplied floorhead and upholstery tools, not suction numbers alone.

Research-based comparison of published specifications, manuals and UK buying conditions, checked on 10 September 2026. We have not physically tested these products. Recommendations describe the use case each design suits; they are not clinical assessments or a claim to have tested every product. Amazon search links are not verified offers or stock checks. Owners prioritising cordless pet-hair pickup

Dyson V15 Detect Absolute

The V15 model has directly relevant independent pickup testing; verify the UK accessories.

  • High power reduces runtime.
  • Bagless emptying can release dust.

A corded bagged cylinder with a pet-focused tool set

Miele Guard L1 Cat & Dog Flex

The UK Flex package includes a turbobrush and flexible crevice tool.

  • Requires bags and filters.
  • Not the US powered-head package or the M1 model.

A lower hardware budget and long cord

Henry Pet

The current UK listing gives a clear 6 L specification and consumable prices.

  • Storage and carrying weight exceed a small stick vacuum.
  • Older PET200 reviews can describe a different capacity.

Match the floorhead to your actual cleaning jobs

List the surfaces you clean most: stairs, carpet, hard floors, sofa and car. A motorised or turbine brush and a plain upholstery nozzle are different tools. If your main problem is hair on stairs, carrying weight and hose reach can matter more than a large bin.

RTINGS found strong V15 Detect pet-hair pickup in its controlled carpet and upholstery tests. That evidence supports the underlying model, but UK bundles can include different accessories. Check that the head and tool you need are in the exact basket.

Cordless convenience versus a full-house corded clean

A cordless stick is easy to grab for scattered fur and converts into a handheld form. Its high-power runtime can be much shorter than the headline maximum; plan around your longest cleaning session, not the longest advertised low-power setting.

A bagged cylinder needs a socket and storage for the hose but does not stop to recharge. Miele’s UK Cat & Dog Flex includes a turbobrush. Henry’s current UK listing describes a 6 L model with a 10 m cable; older reviews of a 9 L PET200 should not determine the dimensions of the current listing.

Bags, filters and batteries belong in the budget

Bagless does not mean maintenance-free: check filter cleaning, drying time and replacement battery price. Bagged machines require correctly matched bags. Record the included quantity and the ongoing pack cost before comparing five-year ownership.

MyHenry’s accessed page lists ten HepaFlo bags at £12.99. That is about £1.30 each, not a monthly cost: replacement depends on what you collect. A battery replacement should also be counted only when needed, rather than invented as an annual subscription.

Evidence behind the shortlist and reasons to skip

We chose three current UK purchasing routes spanning cordless and bagged cylinders. RTINGS’ V15 testing also notes the dust released when emptying and reduced high-power runtime. Those are practical compromises, not reasons to assume every other vacuum is cleaner or more durable.

We have not conducted a matched three-machine test. Manufacturer durability testing is not a promise of twenty years of service. These are dry-cleaning choices: Henry explicitly excludes wet pickup. Do not use a dry vacuum for liquid pet accidents. A carpet washer is a different appliance and cost decision.

Check the exact machine, tools and consumables together

The Miele comparison is for material number 12652250: a 6.6 kg bagged cylinder with a 12 m operating radius, 3.5 L HyClean Pure TU bag and the STB 305-3 turbobrush. A listing for a Guard M1, a powered-head package or a different Cat & Dog bundle is not the same purchase.

Henry Pet is the current 6 L dry machine, not an older 9 L review unit. Dyson bundles and promotions change, so confirm the floorheads, handheld tool and charger in the basket. Recurring-cost comparisons should include Miele or Henry bags and filters, or Dyson filter care and any eventual battery replacement, without pretending those parts follow a fixed annual schedule.

  • Excluded: No wet-pickup recommendation: the Henry support material identifies the model as dry-only.
  • Excluded: No claim that a mutable retailer bundle includes a particular tool unless it is shown in the final basket.
  • Excluded: No durability winner: CVP has not run long-term or matched three-machine testing.

Replacement frequency is your assumption unless independently measured. Keep kilograms and litres distinct. This total excludes subscriptions and electricity unless you include them in additional charges.

Worked arithmetic example

Illustration only: a £100 delivered product plus 6 replacement packs at £5 totals £130. This is not a product offer or lifespan estimate.

Method: multiply each price by its quantity, round each line to the nearest penny, then add. No inflation or unentered charges are assumed.
